  • The Strawberry Pickin’…

Today was a day spent berry picking! My mother-in-law and sister-in-law invited me to go along with them to pick our own strawberries about a half-hour away, and we had so much fun! We only picked 3-4 gallons each, but by that time we were glad to be done – our back were starting to ache. It was the kind of fields where you couldn’t squat – you had to bend over the whole time. Thus the aching backs… But fun times!

We had our little kiddos along, and I had great visions of pictures of them in the patches. The strawberry fields weren’t quite what I was expecting for perfect pictures, and I wasn’t planning on letting my daughter actually eat the strawberries for the pictures, but..

She was overjoyed when I set her down with the bucket, and immediately started munching…

After asking advice on whether I can even get strawberry stains out, I allowed her to chow on.

“Where do these wonderful things come from??”

She kept picking berries out of the bucket, taking a (gummy, toothless!) bite, throw it down, and take another one. And even without teeth, she managed to take some pretty good-sized chunks out of the strawberries. I love this picture with the little juice drip barely hanging on to her chin.

And this is little Sir William, one of the most adorable little boys ever. My nephew through marriage.

He was sure he was the biggest helper, and was thrilled to carry his own bucket with the few strawberries that made it from the patch without entering his mouth. I just noticed he is munching on a strawberry in almost every one of the above pictures!

My mother-in-law – couldn’t stop picking even after her buckets were full!

Waiting for our berries to be weighed… Notice Zoe’s stained shirt. :)

Little Andrew is thrilled beyond words to have his picture taken. :)

Tender cousin moment - William and Zoe’.

And now all the clothes Zoe’ was wearing -undershirt, onesie, and pants – are sitting in a bucket of hot Oxy-Clean water, hopefully soaking away the stains. Oh the things we won’t do for a few little pictures! Now she’s going to wonder why she can’t always munch on strawberries!

By the way, I am truly loving this spring time. I have never seen south Georgia this green and lush – EVER. I told Ben that I didn’t think it could actually be pretty down here! These few gorgeously-perfect weeks of lovely weather and verdent outdoors have changed my mind on that matter. So I will enjoy it to the max until the 100% humidity arrives and it’s too hot to go outside anymore…

    Enjoy your springtime!

  • I keep trying to comment here and am having a poor connection…):  Your pics are darling!  I’m glad you were able to go!  It was fine not to go walking yest. cause I was away too, but couldn’t call cause my battery died.  I don’t mind driving over there…seriously!  And what wouuld you think of going  Mon, Wed, and Fri. or something like that??  Thanks for the open house too.(:  We def don’t have “roaming” space in here but so far it’s going good.(:

  • mmmm, yummy strawberries! and what sweet pictures…you’ll treasure them forever and know it was worth every bit of scrubbing you did!! Sounds like the garden of eden in Georgia….ok well, maybe not that good, but I’m glad you get to enjoy the loveliness there right now. love to you all!!

  • Fresh strawberries and Spring?? You are a blessed lady! Can’t wait for the day to start my garden. It seems Spring has taken a detour on the way to our side of the country! But it will come and it will be beautiful and one day we’ll actually have strwberries too.(only they aren’t as big and juicy as Southern strawberries, honestly) I do feel blessed to have the kind of summers that Indiana has, they certainly beat Georgia’s by a mile. I’ve realized that there is beauty in every corner if you are willing to look for it. A lesson God knew I needed to learn! Have a great day! And Zoe just keeps getting “precious-er” on each picture!

  • Zoe looks so grown-up, eatin’ strawberries all by herself!  I picked earlier this week and I was just like your MIL, I couldn’t quit picking even when my containers were full!  I think Linda and I will go again next week.  See ya tomorrow.

  • the pics of your daughter are darling!  it looks so fun to be out pickin’ berries again.  However - a year ago I got all into picking and got very carried away with it, couldn’t stop and now we will be eating berries for a long time still… =) happy spring!

  • ooohhh fun! isn’t it just so awesome to introduce our little people to all their “firsts” . . . and especially spring things like flowers and berries and green grass tickling their toes?? a precious treasure indeed. love you much and will be calling soon.

  • oh oh. it’s so sweet, it’s so charming.

i miss you and staying up late to watch my fair lady, and i miss you and going to central market. and i miss you and your lovely self. *sigh* i think i miss you.

  • oh, those pictures are just PERFECTLY DARLING. and so just “all american” if you know what i mean. :) i can only imagine how my child would love something like that…
i have to put in my two cents on the stains. i swear by oxi cleans laundry pre-treat spray remover. i use it instead of shout, because for some reason shout never gets a stain out for me! but between that and tide detergent i have literally never had anything stained that wouldn`t come out. i never watch what i get on her clothes. ever.
and now i`ll climb down off my orange crate.
sorry to go off– i just love that stuff…

  • Precious pics! Glad you’re enjoying Spring…we are finally getting some up here too!  Yippee!!  I absolutely LOV this time of year!!!!  Guess I won’t be doing a lot of pickin’ strawberries, or anything else that requires a lot of bending over…this baby keeps growing…..=)

  • O i love strawberry picking, cant wait till they are ready in PA. I love the field that you picked them at, that is neat to have them up like a raised bed. MMMM Strawberry pie, shortcake and desserts i can just about taste them now. I hope we can get some strawberrys  when we can come down south in 2 weeks. Cute baby pictures as well.

  • Thanks for the that nice comment – made my day! Sweet strawberry pictures!! I can’t wait for stawberries around here. I was even desperate enough to buy some at Walmart Yesterday.

  • too cute! jason did the same thing last summer. not having teeth sure didn’t stop him!:) she’s a doll.

  • I enjoyed meeting you this weekend and our little walk and talk Saturday night. :)   Chloe really is very beautiful.  I was thinking on the way home that it’s a shame I never held her.  :/  Seems like since I’m a mom, I don’t hold other people’s babies as much anymore.  I’m also glad we got in on some of those strawberries.  And, yes, William is truely one of the most handsome little guys around.  He made me wish for my camera.  :)

  • Needed to take a few minutes to post from my crazy life.  I remember strawberries and little ones, my youngest is 12.  Zoe is adorable with the strawberries.  My girls and I were talking about strawberry picking this weekend, and cant wait. But will be quite a few weeks till they will be ready for picking in PA.  But the time will come.

  • these are too delightful for words! my little strawberry covered niece gets more beautiful all the time. a reflection of her mommy, no doubt. *grins*
the i-miss-you ache in my heart just became a lot worse. that’s it. i’ve had it. who cares about insane airline prices? the price of gas? time off from work? decreased bank accounts? i’m coming down to see you. now.

  • @baileyandme - I used that very one and the same oxy-clean and it took it out perfectly! I didn’t use it before for her stains things like carrots and sweet potatoes but those would never come out. I shall have to use that oxy stuff from now on – I’m sold. :)

  • Cute pictures or should I say Cute little girl. She’s getting so big. I havent seen ya’ll in so long. I can’t wait to see you again…

  • I have a question:  How do you get her to wear her little hats without taking them off all the time? Brooklyn despises hats and headbands. It so sad because i think there adorable, but i cant get her to leave them alone when i wear them on her.

  • I don’t know where I’ve been, but apparently not here at this lovely piece of internet property!!  Your Mom and sister and brother came by the other day to drop off some plants to sell at my barn sale.  They were a hit!  She told me about your xanga site and I’m so glad she did!  Hope you’re having a good Monday.  I just woke up from a delcious mid-afternoon nap….doesn’t happen very often that BOTH boys are napping at the same time, but when it does….oh, the wonderfulness of it all!  Love, Janelle  P.s  Zoe + fresh strawberries = cuteness, too much cuteness!

  • too cute!! ahh, strawberries. bring on summer, i say.

      have a great week!

  • Sounds awesome. We would love to come over sometime for a fun night. Were glad ya’ll were pleased with the landscaping also. So good to see you last night..
